CREATE BASIC CHARTS

 

After completing this lesson, you should know:

  • Different methods to create a chart
  • What the different areas of a chart is called
  • How to move and resize a chart
  • Where to find the Chart Tools ribbon tabs

 

DIFFERENT METHODS TO CREATE A CHART

Method 1:

  • Select the data you want to include in the chart. For this example we only include the data from two columns (Emp Nr and Quarter 1).

 





  • Insert ribbon tab → Charts group → click on a chart type (e.g. Column)
  • Choose the basic 2-D Column chart

 







  • Result: The chart will be placed on the same sheet.

 








Method 2:

  • Select the data you want to include in the chart
  • Press F11 on the keyboard
  • Result: The chart will be placed on a new sheet to the left of the data sheet.

 


In the examples above we only included the data from 2 columns. If you are selecting more columns, the chart will look like this:

MOVE AND RESIZE A CHART

If a chart is on the same sheet than the data, you can move or resize the chart.

Move the chart:

  • Click anywhere on the Chart Area
  • Drag the chart to move it to a new location

Resize a chart:

  • Click on any of the resize handles in the corners of the chart
  • Click and drag to resize the chart

 







EXPLORE THE CHART TOOLS RIBBON TABS

When a chart is selected, the Chart Tools ribbon tabs will appear.


 


On the Design ribbon tab you can, amongst other options, do the following:
